Heat advisory extended through Wednesday evening
The National Weather Service updated the advisory late Sunday night, pushing the end date from Monday to Wednesday as triple-digit valley heat lingers.

SONOMA: The National Weather Service has extended the heat advisory covering Sonoma Valley through 10 p.m. Wednesday, October 7. The service issued the update at 11:01 p.m. Sunday, pushing the advisory's end two days past its original Monday-evening window.
The advisory covers the North Bay interior valleys, including Sonoma Valley, with high temperatures in the mid-90s to low-100s through Wednesday. Mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow will limit overnight relief, the Weather Service said.

The heat affects anyone without effective cooling and adequate hydration, according to the advisory, with impacts likely in some health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure.
The advisory has been in place since Saturday morning, when the Weather Service first issued it amid the October heat spell. Cal/OSHA reminded employers on October 2 to provide cool-down areas, rest breaks and drinking water for outdoor workers as the heat arrived.
The Weather Service urges extra precautions while the advisory stands: drink water, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening. Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should act quickly.

The advisory also carries the season's familiar warning for drivers: check the backseat and never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes, the Weather Service said.
The advisory is scheduled to expire at 10 p.m. Wednesday. The Post will report any further extensions.
