The Post is open
A launch editorial from the Editorial Board: brisk, community-close coverage of the plaza town, written at walking speed.

SONOMA: This is the first edition of the Sonoma Post, and it is worth saying plainly what it is and what it is not.
It is a dispatch from a plaza town. The Post covers Sonoma the way you would cover it on foot: City Hall, the Plaza, the schools, the valley, the trails and the coast, in brisk daily pieces that respect your time and assume you live here, or wish you did.

It is not a wire service, a tourism brochure or a social feed with headlines. It does not do outrage, and it does not do stenography. It verifies before it publishes, corrects when it errs, and keeps its opinion on this page, clearly labeled.
The Post's posture toward power is simple: curious, persistent and independent. The council, the county, the state agencies with land in the valley, the nonprofits spending public money's neighborly equivalent, all get the same treatment. Straight questions, fair hearing, on the record.
Its posture toward readers is simpler still. You are a neighbor, not a metric. The morning email is called The Morning Post because it should read like one: the day's essentials, the week's look-ahead, nothing you have to wade through.

A word on speed. The Post is brisk, but brisk is not careless. A fast story with a hole in it is just a rumor with a masthead. We would rather be second and right, and on the stories that matter most to this town, we intend to be both.
The plaza has been the center of Sonoma's public life for two centuries. This publication is a bet that it still is, and that a town this interesting deserves a daily record worthy of it.
